- What is the age range for Young People meetings?
- The suggested age range is 15-22 years old, however, the meetings will always be flexible on age (younger and older).
- When and where are the Young People meetings?
- All daily meetings
- I don't drive, how can I get to a meeting?
- If you need transportation to get to a meeting, call the contact person and they will see about getting you a ride with another attending member to and from the meeting.
- Telephone and On-line Meetings
- My parents want to come to a meeting.
- Parents are discouraged from attending the Young People meetings as their presence could inhibit open sharing.
- What do I have to do to become a member?
- Young people are OA members when they say so. They are entitled to the same rights and protections of our twelve traditions as are all OA members. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.
- Can I go to other OA meetings?
- Yes, you are welcome and encouraged to attend any of the OA meetings that you want. We have specialty meetings, such as Young People to give focused attention to needs that different people may have as compulsive overeaters. Our online schedule describes the type and format of each meeting. There are also monthly updated Meeting Directories that you may pick up at meetings.
- Will there be therapists or other adults at the Young People meetings?
- We do not provide therapy at OA. This is something, if desired, that you would need to seek outside our Fellowship. There will, however, always be at least one adult OA member present to provide encouragement and answer questions.
- Will anyone repeat what I say at a meeting?
- No. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all of our principles. Members tend to use their first names only in meetings and it is understood that we all respect the privacy and anonymity of everyone who comes to these meetings and that includes what they speak about. Who you see and what you hear at a meeting is to be left at the meeting.
-
- Does OA cost money?
- There are no dues or fees in OA. We are self-supporting by our own contributions. You will see a basket passed at each meeting. You are not required to contribute to attend.
